Thieves in parties...
---------------------------------------
Copyparties are events of fun having,
meeting friends and getting new ones.
But unfortunately there are some people
who don't think the same. There are
people, who STEAL things from other
party-goers. What is this about?
In Finnish parties it hasn't been too
bad a trouble - YET -. At DDG-digiparty
someone stole from DDG several of their
cartridges and in Byterapers-party I
was stolen two cartridges. Several of
Those small things have been stolen in
numerous parties, because they fit into
one's pocket easily.
But at Triangle's party there were
experts working. While everybody was
watching the demo competition there was
someone working and a lot of equipment
was stolen.
- 4 (four!) Amiga 500s
- 8 (eight!) external drives
- 1 picture digitizer (Triangle's)
Is this how one should act in parties

instead of having just fun? Also more
thieving happened:Ydex/Hitech lost over
50 disks, which had for example all
their sources on them.
Why do some people such? Why do they
waste everybody else's party fun? Is
there a real need for doing so?
What can we do to avoid robbings? Not
much. Best way is to bring nothing with
you to parties, but it is impossible.Of
course you can always have someone at
your stand keeping an eye on your stuff
so there's no chance for thieves. And if
all of you have to go,ask your neighbor
to watch so that no one takes them.
Is there a way to get things back? It
is very difficult. In fact, one's only
chance is to catch the thief when it's
doing its job. After that,it's veryvery
hard, actually impossible.Maybe you see
familiar things later, at another party
but can you be sure it was that guy who
stole them? He can have sold them to
other guys as well.
There's no final cure to thieves.
As long as there is private property,
there will be thieves. Just be careful.
